Burmese protesters using "Team America" likeness of Kim Jong-Il on posters

Team America lives on.
Jeff Koyen sends this along and asks, "Anyone remember Evil Bert spotted alongside Osama in Bangladesh?"
Indeed. At left, a snapshot of the original Kim Jong Il puppet from the Team America movie. I shot the photo during a visit earlier this year to South Park Studios. The little guy does get around.

Irony: ur doin it rite.
I so roanry........
Seriously though... I do not understand the motivations of Kim Jong Il. I mean, being dictator of a poor country is kind of crappy isn't it? Why not just install a monarchy, call yourself King and put in place a Parliament?
Then you could get invited to all the cool parties, drink all the Hennessy you want and sleep with blonds without having to kidnap them first.
Of course, in the famous Evil Bert incident, the posters were being carried by ill-informed (on several levels!) bin Laden supporters. Here, the parody image is used by an anti-Kim Jong-il protesters, where a mocking tone is perfectly appropriate.
Great job, team. Head back to base for debriefing and cocktails.
Goddamn Hans Brix...
Team America was the first Hollywood movie to take terrorism seriously.
And poo fetishes!
I've been living in Japan for the past two years and have seen this on a few occasions - it cracked me up the first time as it was in a fairly respectable paper too!
I was in Rangoon for most of the past month and while Internet access is readily available around town many sites are blocked by the censors, including BoingBoing. BB should be proud to be on the blacklist! Most news sites are available (NY Times, CNN, Wash. Post, BBC) but dissident sites and some blogs are blocked. Yahoo mail and Hotmail are blocked but Gmail is not.
